Epson Perfection V700 Photo

Photo Scanners

The Advanced Total Film, Document and Photo Scanning Solution for the Professional User

Tailored specifically to meet the high level requirements of scanning professionals, the Epson Perfection V700 Photo incorporates new and refined technologies that work in tandem to provide a fast, total scanning solution with quality rivalling many drum scanners.

KEY FEATURES & BENEFITS
High Speed Scanning

Along with the high speed moving carriage-type TPU (Transparency Unit), the Perfection V700 Photo features the ability to connect to the PC or Macintosh using either USB 1.1, USB 2.0 or high speed Firewire interfaces.

Adding further to the enhanced speed capabilities of the Perfection V700 Photo is a dedicated high-speed ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) hyper processor. This on-board ASIC is able to process scanned image data significantly faster than other scanners that typically rely on the PC's internal processor and memory. The result is a consistent high speed scanning operation.

Powerful Software Tools

Ensuring the Perfection V700 Photo is a complete, "out of the box" scanning solution, the scanner is bundled with an extensive range of power software tools, which includes:

Versatile Paper Handling

Epson Creativity Suite – central to exploiting the full potential of the Perfection V700 Photo. Epson Creativity Suite incorporates a range of refined and new scanning applications. Functioning as the Creativity Suite's main hub, Epson's File Manager utilises an explorer–type interface for viewing image thumbnails, categorising images, editing, creating slide shows and even creating custom CD/DVD labels.

SilverFast SE 6 – a high-end scan and imaging product that can be used as a standalone application or Photoshop plug–in. Features of this new version include Dust and Scratch Remove, GANE™ Grain and Noise Elimination, Adaptive Colour Restoration and NegaFix™.

ABBYY FineReader 6 (Win)/5.0 (Mac)Sprint Plus – a powerful Optical Character Recognition (OCR) application that converts scanned document images into editable files.

Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 – delivering the power and flexibility for professional quality transformation of digital images. With Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0, users can experiment with special effects and compositing tools to enhance photos and explore their creativity.

Crisp Definition

Rivalling the quality of many drum scanners, the Perfection V700 Photo - with it's 4.0 Dmax optical density - provides users with the ability to create high quality print-ready negative and transparency scans. With such a high optical density, the scanner ensures scanned images exhibit an almost perfect colour tone reproduction of the original negative or transparency.

The Perfection V700 Photo's optical density is a significant advancement over earlier models and enhances the scanner's ability to capture full details in both highlight and shadow, delivering exceptionally clear and highly detailed scans. This means that when you scan in your negatives for photograph printing, you will be able to capture the same amount of detail, if not more, than if you had them printed at the photo lab.

With a 16–bit gradation capability, the Perfection V700 Photo can faithfully reproduce a full range of colours; and, with a special AD converter for "noise" reduction, can maintain image integrity even with the increased gradation.

Restoration & Dust Removal

The Epson PERFECTION V700 PHOTO's Epson Scan software is designed for beginners right through to professionals.

For all users, Epson Scan's Photo Restoration functions – Colour Restoration and Dust Removal — are essential tools in photo, negative and transparency restoration. Designed specifically for high quality photo and film scanning, Colour Restoration employs sophisticated technology to restore image colour that has been affected by fading and other colourloss influences, such as light and airborne contaminants. With Dust Removal, Epson Scan automatically detects dust shadows then corrects the shadow to match neighbouring picture elements (pixels).

Professional Film Scanning

With innovative bluish lamp technology, the Epson Perfection V700 Photo is able to achieve optimum negative and film scanning results in a fraction of the time than would otherwise be the case. This is achieved by reducing the amount of blue exposure time, thereby alleviating one of the main problems typically associated with using pure white light to scan negatives.

The scanner also features a fully integrated Transparency Unit (TPU) and four film holders to streamline and simplify film scanning. Using the A4 TPU (297mm x 214mm) area and the included film holders, the Perfection V700 Photo makes light work of simultaneous scanning of either:

  • 35mm x 24 FRAMES STRIPFILM
  • 35mm x 12 SLIDES MOUNTED FILM
  • MEDIUM FORMAT 120/220 (6 x 12cm) x 3 FRAMES STRIPFILM
  • 4 x 5 INCHES x 2 FRAMES FILM
  • 8 x 10 INCHES x FILM AREA GUIDE
Dual Lens System

Among the many features that set the Perfection V700 Photo in a class of it's own is an advanced Dual Lens System incorporating two separate lenses, each designed to optimise the scanning results in specific modes.

Based on the scan mode selection, the Perfection V700 Photo will automatically adjust the lens being used. When using the Film (with Film Holder) mode, the scanner will utilise it's powerful 6400dpi Super Resolution Lens, which delivers film scan results of incredibly high quality. In Reflective or Film (with Film Area Guide) modes, the Perfection V700 Photo switches over to its 4800dpi High Resolution Lens.

High Resolution

When high resolution scans of photos, film or documents is an absolute must, the Epson Perfection V700 Photo delivers at class–leading levels. With it's advanced Dual Lens System featuring a revolutionary 6400dpi Super Resolution Lens and 4800dpi Matrix CCD (Charge Coupled Device) technology, the Perfection V700 Photo ensures outstanding resolution and definition.

It is this combination of technologies that makes it possible for the Perfection V700 Photo to deliver high resolution scans without an increase in carriage size.

Generating even greater definition, the scanner's Micro Step Drive sub-scanning moves the optical carriage so precisely, the scanning resolution can be increased to 9600dpi.

Digital Ice Technologies

Working from within the scanner itself during the scanning process, the Epson Perfection V700 Photo's DIGITAL ICE Technologies automatically removes surface defects, such as dust and scratches from scanned images.

In stark contrast to software–only solutions, DIGITAL Technologies removes image surface defects without softening, blurring or altering any of the original image's underlying details or composition. This is achieved by means of advanced technologies that obtain and utilise information about the nature and location of surface and near–surface defects as an image is scanned.

During the typical scanning process, Red, Green and Blue (RGB) image information is gathered from the scanner's RGB channels. DIGITAL ICE Technologies uses an infrared LED and fourth (Defect) channel to collect defect information during this process.

As a result of this combined hardware and software solution, the award–winning DIGITAL ICE Technologies are able to remove even fingerprint marks.

For films that have only minor defects, which have been caused by dust, the Perfection V700 Photo incorporates DIGITAL ICE Lite Technologies for subtle defect removal while maintaining high scan speeds.

For automatic photo print surface defect removal, the Perfection V700 Photo utilises DIGITAL ICE for Photo Prints Technologies, which removes scratches, dust and dust particles, folds, creases and tears from a scanned print image.

Print and Scan From Anywhere

DIGITAL ICE for Photo Prints Technologies employs differential shadowing technology and proprietary software algorithms to identify the precise locations of physical defects, or virtual "noise", on a print being scanned. It then quickly and automatically eliminates those defects, producing a scanned image file that improves upon the original print.
